Why Should I Go To Church? (Part 1)

Luke 4:16 - “On the Sabbath day he (Jesus) went into the synagogue (Church), as was his custom”.

Why should I go to church?

1. Jesus Went To Church

My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ set an example before me.

He is my hero and the role model for my Christian life.

Luke 4:16 - “On the Sabbath day he (Jesus) went into the synagogue (Church), as was his custom”.

While Jesus was on this earth, He went to church on a regular base without fail.

Nothing hindered Jesus from going to the synagogue - no one could stop him from going to church.

Jesus stated that the church was His Father’s house.

To go to church is to go to our heavenly Father’s house.

Luke 2:49 - "Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them."

What was Jesus’ attitude in attending church?

Our Lord’s attitude was this:

  • Regardless of how many people are there, I will go to church

  • Regardless of what people will think about me, I will go to church.

  • Regardless of whether they love me or not, I will go to church.

  • Regardless of whether they all accept me or not, I will go to church.

  • Regardless of whether they listen to my words or not, I will go to church and preach the word.

  • Regardless of what kind of people come, I will go to church.

  • Regardless of whether they are mature and holy or not, I will go to church.

  • Regardless of whether they are glad I'm there or not, I will go to church.

  • Regardless of whether they accept my teaching and my ministry or not, I will go to church.

Jesus went to the church as was His custom!

It was an unchangeable covenant with Go.

It was the will of His Father.

He knew who He was – no matter what others thought or said about Him.

Why I should go to church every Sunday?

Because Jesus is my role model for my faith and Christian walk.

Because it is an unchangeable covenant I make with my heavenly Father.

Because it is the will of our Father that we should go to the house of the Lord.

After school, if our children do not come home on time, as parents, how did we feel? Will you not be uncomfortable? Will you not care?

I believe in the same way, our Father in heaven wants to see us in His house – in the church.

Why should I go to church?

2. Because I want to follow my master's will

As believers, going to church is God’s command and God’s will for our lives.

Hebrews 10: 25 - "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

We come to church not only to meet God, but also to meet with each other to build each other up. For our spiritual growth we need each other. We need to encourage each other, pray for each other, and we need to express Christ-like nature and love to each other.

Why should I go to church? It is God’s will and commandment, and as a child of God I must obey.

I will come to church with reverence and fear – that is God’s command.

Leviticus 19:30 - "Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord."

Psalms 2:11 - "Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling."

1 Kings 8:14

2 Chronicles 6:13 – 7:1

Why should I go to church?

3. Going to church is a joy

Psalms 122:1-2 - "I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem."

When we were young children growing up India, we had overwhelming joy anytime we were able to go to our grandparent’s house.

Sometimes I even felt more comfort and love at my grandparent's than my own home.

I find joy when I am with Jesus because He means more than anything to me, He is the lover of my soul.

Why should I go to church?

4. I receive divine protection over my family and all my property when I go to church.

Exodus 34:24 - "I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the Lord your God."

Deuteronomy 11:12 - "It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lordy our God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end."

You are honoring the Lord by going to church.

I know when I am in His house, I am always under His care, and His divine protection is always over me and my family, and all my possessions.

Why should I go to church?

5. To give due honor and respect to my Lord because He is greater than anyone or anything else in my life.

I am more than happy to give when I come to the church

Mark 12:41-44 - "Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

The widow came to church to give her all to Jesus.

Deuteronomy 16:16b-17 - "No one should appear before the Lord empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you."

When I give, I will give with a cheerful heart because God loves the cheerful giver.

Malachi 3:10 - "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

I want to go to church to give back to the Lord the very blessings I received from Him.
