For Better, Not Worse (Part 2)

August 12, 2018

1 Corinthians 11:23 -25 - "For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

"For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you."

Paul not only received from the Lord but also gave to his fellow believer that which he had received from the Lord; what a joy in such fellowship.

When we realize that what we have is from the Lord, whether spiritual or material, we will be ready to share with others, we won't be selfish or greedy.

"The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it"

Our Lord knew that would transpire over the next hour. He knew He would be betrayed. He knew He would shed blood in Gethsemane. He knew He would be arrested by the soldiers, tortured, taken to the cross and ultimately crucified.

Yet, our Lord Jesus gave thanks to His Father. His circumstances should never shook the relationship with His Father.

Remember our God will always be our God - our heavenly Father will always be our heavenly Father. Our praise and worship of our God is not based on our circumstances. He is worthy to be praised all the time.

Our Lord Jesus was filled with joy at His last supper with His disciples. What love, what concern he had. He was not depressed or emotional at what was going to take place. He did not avoid eating with His friends because of the events that were to come.

"This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “

During the last three and a half years He gave them teaching, instruction, doctrines, and revealed the mysteries of heaven to His disciples. But now He gives His body and His blood. He practiced what He preached - our actions are more powerful than our words.

"This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

This is a covenant between a husband and a wife - each time we drink this cup in church, we are promising our bridegroom to be a faithful, pure, and blameless bride forever and ever.
