A Light Shone in the Prison

July 22, 2018

Acts 12:7 - "Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists."

We, as children of God, are not supposed to be in darkness – because we are the children of light!

Therefore, we need to walk in the light.

Once we were in darkness – we were called the children of darkness.

But our Lord Jesus, who is the light of the world, called us out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 1:9 - "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

Luke 1:78-79 - "because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness.

Colossians 1:13-14 - "And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves."

Once we were in darkness – even our hearts were full of darkness.

What happens in the darkness:

  1. In darkness, we do not recognize people or can't identify people - so we don’t respect others, we don’t for care others.

  2. In darkness, we are not free to walk, we will hurt ourselves, hurt others, and other will also hurt us.

  3. In the darkness is all the dangerous creatures tend to hide.

Ephesians 5:8 - "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light."

Again, Satan wants to drag us into darkness – by the influence of things of this world.

The whole world is under darkness.

Colossians 1:13-14 - "And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves."

We are now in the kingdom of the Son, which means that in the spiritual realm, we are walking in heavenly light, because the whole world is under the darkness.

The devil put Peter in a cell, in chains, in darkness – where fear of death loomed.

From a humanly perspective, Peter thought it was his last night. No one in this world would be able to rescue him from the hands of Herod - he thought this was the end.

But there was someone above who was monitoring Peter’s situation. No power in this world can stop Him, nobody can control the hand of my God, nobody in the world can hinder the angel of God who is always at hand to rescue God’s children.

Remember, although it may seem like it, you are not in a prison, but you are in the hands of an almighty God.

Acts 12:7 - "Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists."

The phrase ‘suddenly’ implies my Lord will take action at the right time for you and I. You may think no one cares, but know that heaven is watching every moment of our life and

our almighty God will send His angels at the right time.
