Why Should I Go To Church? (Part 2)

May 27, 2018

Why should I go to church?

6. I feel secure and content in the church - in the presence of my God.

Psalms 84:1-3 - "How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young—a place near your altar, Lord Almighty, my King and my God."

When a sparrow or a swallow are in their nest, they don't fear the enemy, they don't fear any weather changes. The storm will come and go, but the nest will remain.

When I am afraid or my situations turn dangerous, there is only one place in this world that offers protection and that is in the sanctuary of the Lord.

Why should I go to church?

7. When I am discouraged and downcast, I know I can find hope and encouragement in the house of the Lord.

Hannah went to church even though her prayer was not answered, her dream did not come true, the desires of her heart were not yet fulfilled, yet she still went to church.

1 Samuel 1:10-12 - "In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” As she kept on praying to the Lord."

Hannah was accused and insulted at home, she was harassed by Peninnah, she had so many excuses to not to go to church.

But God not only blessed Hannah with a child, He also blessed all of Israel with a judge, a priest, and a prophet who anointed two great kings in Israel.

Hannah received Samuel in church.

Zechariah and Elizabeth received John the Baptist in the church.

The house of the Lord brings forth Samuels and John the Baptists into this world.

Psalms 40:3-4 - "My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng."

Why should I go to church?

8. When we are in danger, when we are threatened by enemy, the best place to go is the church.

2 Kings 19:14 - "Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord."

2 Kings 19:35 - "That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!"

When they started to worship in the house of the Lord, God took over the battle.

When I cannot face or overcome my battles, I claim victory when I go to the house of the Lord to worship the One who will fight my battles.

Why should I go to church?

9. I receive healing every time I come to church

Matthew 12:9,13 - "Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other."

In the house of the Lord there is healing and deliverance, which I have experienced many times. By His stripes I have been healed!

Why should I go to church?

10. To remember the crucified Christ by observing Lord’s Supper

Acts 20 7a - "On the first day of the week we came together to break bread."

When you come to church, never miss the Lord’s Table.

Malachi 1:7 - “By offering defiled food on my altar. “But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’ “By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible."

Just like the Apostles and the first century church, I also want to meditate on His suffering and death on the cross, and eat and drink from His Table.

Why should I go to church?

11. To see my Jesus Christ in His glory and to hear from Him.

Luke 4:20-22 - "The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him."

They all saw Jesus.

They all heard the voice of Jesus with their ears.

They all praised Him with their mouth.

Apostle John on the day of the Lord (in the church) saw his Master and Lord in His glory.

Revelation 1:9 - "On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet." 12-16 - "I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance."

Apostle John saw Jesus.

Apostle John heard His voice.

And he felt His divine touch.

Just like John, I also want to see, hear, and feel his touch and praise Him with my mouth.

Never miss out on going to the house of the Lord!!
