The Nature of My God

What are the Natures of my God?

What are the Attributes of my God!

Ish: 46: 5. With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?

Ish: 40: 25. “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.

What are the attributes of my God? What are the natures of my God?

When we talk about the attributes of God, we are trying to answer questions like,

Who is God?

An attribute of God is something true about him. While fully comprehending who God is impossible for us as limited beings, God does make himself known in a variety of ways, and through what he reveals about himself in his Word and in his creation, we can begin to wrap our minds around:

i. God is our awesome Creator,

ii. God is our loving heavenly Father,

iii. God is our only Saviour,

iv. And God is our best friend.

What is God like,

And What kind of God is he?

Ish: 46: 5. With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?

Ish: 40: 25. “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.

God is unlike anything or anyone we could ever know or imagine.

He is one of a kind, unique and without comparison.

Even describing him with mere words truly falls short of capturing who he is – our words simply cannot to justice to describe our holy God.

Still, God possess attributes that we can know (even in just in part) and he’s given us his Word as a means to understand himself.

There are lists of God’s attributes; some are what theologians call “incommunicable” (qualities possessed by God alone) and others are “communicable” (qualities that both God and we possess, though only he possesses them perfectly).

1. God Is Infinite – He is Self-Existing, Without Origin

"And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." – Col: 1: 17.

“Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure” –Ps: 147: 5

The fact that God is self-existent -- that he was created by nothing and has always existed forever -- is perhaps one of the hardest attributes of God for the believer to understand.

2. God Is Immutable – He Never Changes

“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” Malachi 3:6

God does not change. Who he is never changes.

His attributes are the same from before the beginning of time into eternity.

His character never changes – he never gets “better” or “worse.”

His plans do not change. His promises do not change.

This ought to be a source of incredible joy for believers.

“What all this means, very simply, is that God is dependable!

Our trust in him is therefore a confident trust, for we know that he will not, indeed cannot, change. His purposes are unfailing, his promises unquestionable.

If he said call upon me, I will answer - he never changes

I send my word and heals you – he never changes

It is because the God who promised us eternal life is unchallengeable that we may rest assured that nothing, not trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword shall separate us from the love of Christ.

It is because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever that neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, not even powers, height, depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. 8:35-39)!”

3. God is Omnipotent – He Is All Powerful

“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.” – Psalm 33:6

“Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea. If he comes along and confines you in prison and convenes a court, who can oppose him? Surely he recognizes deceivers; and when he sees evil, does he not take note?” – Job 11:7-11

Omnipotent means to have unlimited power (omni = all; potent = powerful). God is able and powerful to do anything he wills without any effort on his part.

“God's attribute of omnipotence means that God is able to do all that He desires to do. When He plans something, it will come to be.

If He purposes something, it will happen. Nothing can prevent His plan. When His hand is stretched out to do something, no one can turn it back.

Omnipotence comes from two Latin words. Omni means "all," and potens means "powerful." God's decisions are always in line with His character, and He has all the power to do whatever He decides to do.”

“Clearly the Scripture says:

Ps: 24: 8. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

Gen: 18: 14. Is anything too hard for the Lord?

Nothing is too hard for Him to accomplish

Jer: 32: 17.Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

Jer: 32: 27.I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

Lk: 1: 37. For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Eph: 3: 20. In fact, Paul says that God is "able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine"

4. God Is Omniscient – He Is All-Knowing

1Jn: 3: 20. If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

God is omniscient, which means he knows everything. And He never sleeps or slumbers, He's aware every moment of every day, exactly what we're up against.

He knows our way, and is with us always. There's no place on this earth we can go that He doesn't see and know of.”

God’s omniscience means: “God perfectly knows Himself and, being the source and author of all things, it follows that He knows all that can be known.

And this He knows instantly and with a fullness of perfection that includes every possible item of knowledge concerning everything that exists or could have existed anywhere in the universe at any time in the past or that may exist in the centuries or ages yet unborn.”

Because God is all-knowing, we can trust that he knows everything we’re going through today and everything we will go through tomorrow.

He knows our heartache, our feelings, He knows our past present and future

When we meditate on this truth, we will have confident on God.

Even though we do not know the way, He knows very well

He knows me very well than my parents. He knows me better than my doctor

He knows my tomorrow, he knows my future

5. God Is Omnipresent – He Is Always Everywhere

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.” Ps: 139: 10.

“‘Am I a God at hand,’ declares the Lord, ‘and not a God afar off? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him?’ declares the Lord. ‘Do I not fill heaven and earth?’ declares the Lord” - Jer: 23: 23.

To be omnipresent is to be in all places, at all times.

Yet, it is important to understand that for God “to be” in a place is not the same way we are in a place.

We feel other’s presence with our five senses, but since God is spirit, we can only feel his presence with spirit

Nevertheless, he is with us, the fullness of his presence is all around us.

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” The psalmist proclaims God’s omnipresence in Psalm 137.

There are lists of God’s attributes; some are what theologians call “incommunicable” (qualities possessed by God alone) and others are “communicable” (qualities that both God and we also possess, though only he possesses them perfectly).

God created man in His own image and likeness

Not a physical structure but a spiritual quality – communicable attributes - natures

What is the Nature of my God!

1. My Good is good God

i. Ps: 73: 1. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.

ii. Mk: 10: 18. “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

iii. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seek him.

iv. Nah: 1: 7. The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

I know that I am not perfect, I know sometimes I forget to pray.

I know I have questioned my faith, I know sometimes I lose my temper, but thank you for loving me unconditionally and giving me another day to start over again

Money is temporary. House is temporary, Car is temporary, Career is temporary But my God is eternal and He is good to me all the time

Never let the sadness of your past and fear of your future ruin the happiness of your present

God will make a way when there seems to be no way.

I am not afraid of tomorrow because I know God is already there!

I know life is not fare, but God is always faithful and good!

When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place.

Never lose hope God is always by your side.

Sleep in peace tonight, knowing that God is Bigger than anything you face tomorrow.

I am not lucky, but I am blessed. Everything I have is because of God’s grace and favor

I fell in love with God because He loved me when I couldn’t even love myself.

When you can’t forgive someone, pray for them. It may not change them but it will definitely change you

No storm is too big when you have faith in God

2. My God is Holy God

Lev: 19: 2. Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.

Josh: 24: 19. Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the Lord. He is a holy God; he is a jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins.

Ish: 6:3. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

1Pet: 1:14-16. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.

Revl: 4:8. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”

3. My God is Faithful God

Deut: 32: 4. He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

1Co: 1:9. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lam: 3: 23. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Heb: 10:23. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

4. My God Love –

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

God expressed his love by giving His only Son

5. My God is just God

Deut: 32: 4. "The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

6. My God is merciful God

Lam: 3: 22. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

7. My God is Almighty God

Ex: 6:3. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty,

Gen: 17: 1. When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.

Revl: 1:8. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Revl: 4:8. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”

Revl: 11:17. Saying: “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.
